It's 6 am waiting for my class to start and just read the forward by J MAC to this book. Real men walk with God, real men study Gods word. I believe we are real men that God has called, He has put us together for a reason. Let's glorify Him!!
Calvin said ... "It is an error to think that those who flee worldly affairs and engage in contemplation are leading an angelic life. . . We know that men were created to busy themselves with labor and that no sacrifice is more pleasing to God than when each one attends to his calling and studies well to live for the common good "(Calvin's Commentaries, Luke 10:38).
"Being a real man has nothing to do with one's physical strength athletic ability, financial wealth, or social status. Rather, it has everything to do with personal integrity, heartfelt obedience, and daily dependence on the Lord."
Two more days till redeemed men of God get to fellowship over a cup of coffee and sharpen one another. We get to hold each other accountable for sin, strengthen, exhort, and possible share the gospel while we are there.
Food for thought
This is something we will not do in heaven. There will be no need because sin will be done away with. We are but vapors here on earth, lets do the most we can for the Lord while we are here.
Today is the day that the Lord has made rejoice and be glad in it.
We meet today to discuss the first couple chapters of "Men of the Word" @ Starbucks I can't wait. I'm tired of feeding the flesh it time to feed the Spirit and put to death the desires of the flesh.
There is a HUGE link in our initial reading, specifically between preface (MacArthur) and chapter 2 (Holland's on satisfaction). MacArthur points out the key characteristic for men living by faith and Holland identifies Solomon's life determination. They are the same!
